JOB DESCRIPTION

The Fund for Public Education, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports extraordinary education in Teton County School District #1 (TCSD#1). We are seeking an experienced, dynamic leader and proven fundraiser to serve as our next Executive Director. This is a full-time salaried position reporting directly to the organization’s Board of Directors. The Executive Director will also work in close partnership with the TCSD#1 Superintendent.

ABOUT THE FUND FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION

The Fund for Public Education raises funds for Teton County Wyoming’s public schools and manages child wellness programs that cannot be managed by district staff. Headquartered in beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming, we serve nearly 3,000 local students, over 500 teachers and district staff, and ten public schools. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Executive Director will work with the Board, staff, and school district leadership to plan and execute the organization’s mission. Responsibilities include:

  • Strategic leadership: Work with the Board to craft strategic initiatives that further our mission and guide the organization forward. Strategic planning is currently on a three-year cycle with yearly updates. The current plan is set for completion in early 2026.

  • Fundraising: Meet annual fundraising goals of $1 million per year or more through annual campaigns and events, the cultivation of major gifts, positive donor relations, and the development of sustaining donors.

  • Administrative and fiscal management of the organization: Lead the organization through its day-to-day financial operations, annual budget preparation, and tax cycles, and work with the Business Manager to maintain accurate, timely and complete financial records.

  • Management of programs: Collaborate with district leadership and community partners to execute programs with varied goals, criteria, budgets, and outcomes. FPE’s main programs include:

    • Teton County Scholarship Program, which awards more than $1M to graduating seniors annually

    • Dental and orthodontic programs that provide check-ups and professional care for more than 600 students annually

    • Feeding the Whole, which provides free meals for students in need and subsidizes district anti-hunger programs

    • The Jean Coldsmith Impact Fund, which provides free mental health care to students who have experienced trauma, grief, or loss

    • The Market, which provides free winter clothing, school supplies, and more to kids in need

  • Management of staff: Foster a positive and collaborative culture while managing a growing staff that currently includes 3 full-time salaried employees, 1 part-time salaried employee, and three part-time contract employees.

  • Communications: Clearly, creatively, and effectively communicate the organization’s message to a diverse audience through annual publications, web and collateral materials, social media, and press relations. FPE has engaged a professional PR that is currently drafting a long-term communications strategy.

  • Board development and relations: Provide the Board of Directors with regular programmatic, business, and financial updates for quarterly meetings.

  • Events: Plan and execute our annual community events for the purposes of fundraising, community-building, and donor appreciation.

  • Community partnerships: Develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with community organizations such as PTOs, nonprofit partners, and service organizations

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate must have:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in leadership of a nonprofit organization

  • Proven track record in fundraising including cultivating major gifts, building donor pools, and managing donor relations

  • Ability to clearly and accurately communicate complex messaging and programmatic goals to a diverse audience

  • Experience in the positive and collaborative management of staff, including hiring and professional development

  • Competency in budgeting and fiscal management

  • Comfort negotiating a political environment with multiple stakeholders

  • Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate occasional weekend or evening events

 

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • 8 or more years in nonprofit leadership

  • Experience in public education or school foundations

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and Quick Books Nonprofit

  • Knowledge of Teton County, Wyoming’s philanthropic community
